Black Hole Wizard is swiftly turning into a Real Thing in spite of my best efforts to derail us by endlessly rewriting the script. After a few early hiccups with dialog (dialog is hard) and complaints from my goat-dick obsessed artist, 3liza, regarding “too many eyeballs,” the issue #1 script is coming along nicely. I expect to have a version ready for a final editorial pass on Saturday.
My experience writing background and setting material for Privateer Press over the past four years has turned out to be surprisingly useful in writing panel descriptions and environmental descriptions in particular. I’m still working to strike a balance between “show and tell.” That said, comics are an obviously visual medium so it’s a wonderful crutch to hide my possibly crippling deficiencies with dialog!
The inimical Gauger Illustration Machine has not had too many complaints about my art direction, although I refuse to accept total responsibility for whatever nightmarish erotic musings she thinks I will inspire in our future audience.
Hopefully, issue #1 will be in some near-complete state in about a month. Once the script is a little more polished I’ll share some excerpts here.
More BLACK HOLE WIZARD demon/wizard doodles. I think being shown Legend at a very young age somewhat corrupted my concept of “demons”; i struggle to make them anything but sexy, in a very exploitative and sleazy way. To me, the Faustian aesthetic is irrevocably tied up in sexual predation, in ways that are difficult to fully articulate.
of course it didn’t help that my writer put in a bunch of gratuitous and totally inappropriate demon-tonguing in the panel descriptions. that’s on your head now, Simon. you wrote it. you can’t take it back. demon/wizard is canon.
so my point is that all these demons are too nice-looking and you can see me just starting to mess with grosser, more alien forms around the edges there when i ran out of room.
here is a sketch from a few days ago. this is a concept i’ve been doodling for a couple years now, one of those fascinating concepts to no one but myself. prior to this I hadn’t paired the skullgrinding with any sort of ritual context, it just was. this is now looking like a pretty good candidate for the next Rent Boy.
He appeareth in the form of a little Horse or Ass, and then into Human shape doth he change himself at the request of the Master. He speaketh with a hoarse voice. He ruleth over 30 Legions of Inferiors. He teaches all Liberal Sciences, and giveth account of Dead Souls that died in sin.

2012RIGHT NOW IN OAKLAND
My two latest paintings are featured in the group show at 1250 57th Ave, 12pm-5pm. Show runs for the whole of November, and the gallery will be open every Saturday during the month, as well as by appointment with the curator (gallerymac52@gmail.com)
The Rent Boys are paintings of beautiful males who are priced at the cost of my monthly rent apiece. In the literal and figurative (and literally figurative) sense, I am turning them out and selling their bodies to support myself. Their ambivalent expressions and fashionable poses shoulder some burdens normally borne by human girls. I couldn’t say why exactly they are canonical demons, but each speaks or thinks his appropriate sigil.
Other artists in this show include: Stephen Keyton, Vaea, Brenda Luckin, Tom Schultz, Daniel Peters, Ben Blackwell, Cliff Gustafson, and Russell Andaval.
Gallery Mac is near the corner of International and 57th, in the famous Macaroni Building. Tons of off-street parking. Snacks. We are near the Coliseum and Fruitvale BART stations.

I’m reblogging this for the day crew because despite (because of) it being both gay and satanic, I actually like the illustration and wish I had done it at a higher res.
