Yeah ignoring “zoomers can’t use files” (which is lol and also debatable), discord is not hard
just in my own experience, the people who seem to really have trouble with discord are elder millennials. when i started my discord, that group (my peers) had the hardest time overcoming the initial UI shock. I’m not sure why. possibly many of us are too young to have used IRC in large numbers (which discord most resembles imo), but getting too old to feel comfortable or eager about learning a whole new UI. i will say that i fucking hate how every discord i join has 50 users on it, with only about 6 active people, but for some reason 500 channels and each channel’s most recent post was two weeks ago and there are dozens of bots and color codes and weird hoops to jump through that don’t actually make the server more efficient or helpful or fun. my server has about four channels total, and even adding a second “general chat” channel was heavily debated by leadership before we did it because we all hated channel sprawl so much. now we have a main chat, and then a chat2 where you can overflow if you want to chat without changing the subject or interrupting chat1. it works EXTREMELY well and everyone seems to understand intuitively how to self-sort.
edit: i forgot to include in my post that i hate discord and hate how it has sped the death of forums, which were universally superior. i use it because my discord has a specific outreach purpose and needed to be a discord and not a forum to achieve its mission

this picture reminds me that one time a guy in my discord server came in and was like “one time i got banned from another discord for arguing with everyone there that i could easily win a fight with a chimpanzee. i feel really strongly about this and i really got into it and they banned me because i wouldn’t back down. isn’t that ridiculous” and literally everyone who was awake was like “the chimpanzee would wipe the floor with you dude” and he was completely gobsmacked and got really defensive. he really thought he had finally found the one group of people who would agree with him that he could beat the chimpanzee and was just shocked, just totally agog, that yet another discord server was willing to shout him down about his apparently personality-defining belief that he could kill an adult male chimpanzee with his bare hands. anyway he almost got banned a second time and after that we saw less and less of him. he checks in every few months but his participation level is maybe 1% of what it was
i joined a discord server for a DIY vape liquid recipe website, got some really good internet sentences out of it. these dudes are straight dadposting 24 hours a day
my discord server is so mad about the crypto stuff we are earnestly discussing a move to IRC
